Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26th 1926 - 18 October in 2000) was an American actor and singer whose career spanned more than 40 years. London was a torch performer and was well-known for her soft, smooth voice. She recorded over 30 albums of pop and jazz standards from 1955 to 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River" the track that she first performed on her debut album. Alongside her note on the music, London was nominated for an Golden Globe Award in 1974 in her role as nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency!. Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's 35-year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It included roles in the lead female role in several westerns. In the middle of the 1950s, she signed a recording agreement with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. The album she released was her last studio album in 1969 however, she continued to be a hit in the female lead role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) She was joined by her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
